Veteran drummer Jimmy Lovelace has played extensively with guitarists Wes Montgomery and George Benson, and with pianist Junior Mance, appearing with them on records and on film. He has also been heard in the company of the legendary Chris Anderson, Blue Mitchell, Harold Mabern, and Lonnie Liston Smith. He is a pre-eminent bebop drummer, known for subtle and tasteful accompaniment. At Smalls, he has appeared for the last nine years with the Frank Hewitt Trio and Quintet, and with Across 7th Street. With his effortless brushwork, impeccable swing, and Buddha smile, he has long been the favorite of audiences at Smalls.
