Ari Hoenig clearly stands out from other drummers with his total command of the instrument, both as a rhythmic instrument, and as a melodic instrument. Few measure up to his level. Ari studied with Ralph Peterson in his native Philadelphia, and with Ed Soph at the University of North Texas. Since moving to New York in 1996, Ari has been very much in demand, playing and touring with Kenny Werner, Sam Yahel, Jean-Michel Pilc, Josh Redman, and Seamus Blake. Ari's ongoing association with Jean-Michel Pilc began at Smalls, where both have appeared numerous times.
